Adjacent to railway station one mile off the Ayr-Glasgow road. Three 18 hole courses. Lochgreen 6820 yards. S.S.S. 73. Darley 6360 yards. S.S.S. 72. Fullarton 4870 yards. S.S.S. 63.
The Fullarton golf course hosts the juniors on a Saturday. It might not test some of the youngster's length, what it will teach them is accuracy which is at a premium on this course with tight contoured fairways and small targets. Playing to handicap on this course is made difficult for the lower player as often they have to shoot in the 60's for buffer zone and that means that any slip is really punished.
Long and forgiving are the two main features of the Lochgreen and a total contrast from the Darley. But it has hosted Open Championship qualifying when the Open was in Troon in that past. The greens are usually of a very high standard and way above the standard that any other municipal with the amount of play that the Lochgreen endures would have
The Darley is a course that many have waxed lyrical about in the past and with good reason. It is one of the most demanding courses about, once rated the fourth toughest in Scotland to play to your handicap to. This is the real gem in the South Ayrshire Council golfing armoury.
