Strathtay was established in 1909 and is a wooded parkland course. It is a nine-hole course with a mix of flat holes and some reasonably hilly ones, providing a varied challenge to your round.
The second features a relatively new elevated green in a right to left dogleg position. The next hole is immediately behind an island of tall oak trees and demands either a direct route over their tops or, again, a right to left dogleg to avoid them.
The views from the sixth and eighth tees are worth the green fee alone.
The newly constructed 2nd green (1997) is elevated, in a right to left dog-leg position, and constitutes a challenging 200 yard par three. As does the 212 yard third hole being immediately behind an island of tall oak trees demanding either a direct route over their tops with a trajectory that must assure a vertical drop to the green, or a right to left dog-leg approach to avoid the trees.
Yet another perilous par three is presented by the two-levels fourth green which sits on a shoulder sloping towards the approach. Drive over the back to discover, testingly, that the pitch shot to return up on to the oreen needs a finely tuned touch if it is not to fall through the green and back down the facing slope.
