Nestling in the Doon Valley in the heart of Ayrshire lies a veritable gem of a course. Doon Valley Golf Club epitomises the friendly atmosphere found at smaller local courses in Scotland. With only just over 100 golfers the club may be small, but don't mistake that as a lack of quality. Pamela Feggans has recently won a scholarship to play golf in Texas and has been a regular in the Scottish Women's team.
Hard work on the Doon Course has indeed paid dividends. The course itself is of undulating parkland variety and rolls across the hillside of the Doon Valley. A striking feature of the course is Gilmours Gulley which comes into play on several of the holes. Named after an old greenkeeper it plays an integral part at the second as you cross it and again back down the third. From the 7th tee there are breathtaking views down over the "Banks and Braes o' Bonnie Doon" (Burns) and across the valley to the hillside forest that catches the eye.
Visitors have often been amazed by the spectacular vistas. With lush fairways and well kept greens this course is a challenging test of golf. The club celebrates its 75th aniversary this year and would be pleased to welcome visitors to join in the celebrations. The clubhouse is small, but well equipped with a bar and changing facilities. It is busy and lively from April to October
